Our Commitment at the Howard Centre
The Howard Centre is located in the heart of Welwyn Garden City and has a desire to be involved with the community wherever possible.
The aim of our community involvement is to make a positive contribution to Welwyn Garden City, focusing on local issues and strengthening and building on local pride. As part of its work with the community, The Howard Centre participates in national sponsorships and community activities.
Create a Quest Project 2008
As part of the Create a Quest project, Year 4 children from Peartree Junior School and Our Lady’s Junior School have been
learning a ‘Bollywood’ style dance routine at Welwyn. This is part of a national programme with The Prince’s Foundation for
Children & the Arts, which will bring 4,000 children into contact with the arts for the first time.
Two artists from Luton based Kadam Dance, Kali Dass and Katie Ryan, have been teaching the dance to the two groups over the
last six weeks at both schools. After lots of practice, the excited children put on their performances in The Howard Centre
on Saturday 15 November and drew a large crowd of onlookers.
The children will also get to visit The Barn Theatre in Welwyn Garden City to see a performance of Pinocchio and will repeat
their dance routines early next year in London when all the shopping centres and schools involved in the ‘Create a Quest’
project will be presenting their art forms.
