The M&S and Oxfam Clothes Exchange
We all enjoy updating out wardrobes but what do you do with the clothes you don't need any more? It's estimated that across the UK , we discard around 1m tonnes of clothing each year, a lot of which is good enough to be re-sold or recycled.
To help address this issue, M&S and Oxfam have joined forces. When you take your unwanted M&S clothes into an Oxfam shop you'll be given a voucher worth £5 to spend on your next purchase of £35 or more on clothing, home and beauty products, please note you are unable to spend your voucher in the food department.
How does it work?
When you take your unwanted clothes into Oxfam, just show them the M&S label(s) and you'll be given one voucher which you can use in M&S during that calendar month. The voucher entitles you to £5 off your next purchase of £35 or more on clothing, home and beauty products in store (but not online or over the phone, sorry).
Oxfam shops can't re-sell lingerie, socks, underwear or damaged or soiled items so please don't bring these types of clothes. But they'll happily receive any other clothing or shoes, handbags, belts, hats, and scarves.
So, just by going to Oxfam with your unwanted M&S clothing, not only will you give them a second life, but you'll be helping people escape poverty and getting a small treat for yourself. Rewarding stuff!
Part of Plan A
M&S is supporting this initiative through its £200m 'eco-plan', Plan A. One of the 100 commitments within the plan is to provide customers with a recycling service for used clothing, which will go a long way to fulfilling its overall aim if sending no waste to landfill from its own operations.
